It was 7pm (local time) when the US Navy moved out with 2 combat ships. They were heading towards Hudson Bay. Eyewitnesses reported a flurry of activity on board and excitement. However, in the end it was a false alarm. The submarine was empty. Why the submarine was there is unclear. The Chinese consulate in Washington confirmed that it was not an act of war or provocation. Even they did not know what the submarine was doing there. The navy seized the submarine without further ado.
